Brigitte Breault is a Registered Psychologist with a master’s of education degree from the University of Toronto and an after-degree certification in marital and family therapy. She has also completed a certificate program entitled Understanding Emergency Worker Trauma through First Responder Health. Areas of focus are mental health assessments of children and adults, and counseling with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Some examples of forms of therapy practiced are CBT, EFT and EMDR. Brigitte is passionate about her work focusing on the best interests of the individual(s). When working with people the main goal is to be supportive and to help them to gain the strength they need to go out and be successful in their daily lives. Brigitte believes that everyone has strengths but that at times these strengths are not fully actualized as they may be impeded by negative life experience such as grief and trauma. Looking at the whole person is vital to any assessment and Brigitte spends the time to learn about the client in order to provide appropriate suggestions for different paths the individual(s) can take to move forward and lead a healthy, happy and productive life.

Hi, My name is Stefan. I have worked as a facilitator for almost two decades working with child and family services, treatment centers, recovery houses, schools, international mediation firms. I was a divorce mediator for almost a decade and then in my last month of working I assisted a family with working through their issues to such an extent, that they ended up staying together. This was a massive shift in my professional approach and went back to school and got a Masters in Science (Applied Psychology) specializing in mental health. I then began working for nationwide organ-izations such as Homewood Health & Morneau Shepell.

Just prior to coming to Fluid Medical, I was a Crisis Manage-ment Specialist for Homewood Health in Nova Scotia and I continue to be a Therapist working for the Canadian Centre for Counselling & Family Mediation Services in Nova Scotia. My primary work was debriefing front line Hospital, University and Fire department Staff. Offering Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral DBT (Art Therapy), Hypnotherapy, Emotion-Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) & Motivational Interviewing involving mental health issues including; family and relationship issues, conflicts, substance abuse, and trauma. Prior to that, I worked for Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) for a few years, supporting families in crisis with issues involving depression, anger management, life transitions, personal issues and other physical, social and emotional problems.

I have more than 9 years of experience in a collaborative approach with psychology & mediation specializing in addiction issues. I have attended extensive workshops and courses on chemical dependency at Caron Institute in Philadelphia and Hazelden youth and Family Centre in Minneapolis.

My approach is mainstreamed by building a safe space for you and your partner to feel comfortable enough to share your triggers with one another. Secondly, I can assist with an effective Emotion-Focused Couples Therapeutic approach, supporting the underlining feelings that arise from your triggers.

Selected Research & Contributions: • Delivered research at the Turning Point Treatment Center in Smith’s Parish, Bermuda, studying “The Effects of Family Functioning with Abstinence Following a Family Member’s Treatment for Substance Abuse” finding the powerful influence of family relationships on abstinence.

• Implemented an innovative Therapeutic program for the Canadian Centre for Community and Family Mediation, 7 first nation reserves in Saskatchewan, Canada and the Tribal council of Saskatchewan, Canada. Resulted in a more effective approach successfully supporting over 50 clients with Therapeutic Family Mediation improving relationships and increasing family cohesion & decreasing the number of children removed from home due to enhancing family function.

Childhood anxiety; friendship skills; self-esteem; child cognitive development; school refusal; adolescent emotional needs; challenging behaviours; self-harm; parenting problems; school situations; family conflict; worries; making friends; coping with separation or divorce; questioning gender identities, roles, and orientations.

I won’t try to impress/bore you with jargon or acronyms. But my work is informed by a few different models, including these:

Carl Rogers’ client-centred therapy; Gordon Neufeld’s attachment-based, developmental approach; Gabor Maté’s work on trauma; positive psychology; CBT; trauma-informed work; narrative therapy; culturally responsive counselling.
